"Under the watchful eyes of a U.S. Special Forces instructor, a member of a Malian counter-terrorism unit conducts a vehicle search at a simulated checkpoint at a training installation north of Bamako, Mali during a recently conducted military training engagement. The U.S. Special Forces team provided advanced counter-terrorism training to the Malian unit to enhance its capability to secure the vast regions of Mali, a country nearly twice the size of Texas. Advanced counter-terrorism training is provided by U.S. Special Operations Forces under the authorities of the Trans-Sahara Counter Terrorism Partnership, a State Department-led interagency initiative designed to develop the capabilities of countries in northern and Western Africa.
