The Iraq War, also known as the Second Gulf War or the Occupation of Iraq, is an ongoing military campaign which began on March 20, 2003 with the invasion of Iraq by a multinational force now led by and composed almost entirely of troops from the United States and United Kingdom. Although Canada did not join the invasion of Iraq in 2003, members of Canada's elite Joint Task Force 2 have operated inside of Iraq during the war, and an unknown number of Canadians are currently serving within the United States military. Likewise, approximately 100 or more Canadian Forces members have served in Iraq with the United States and the United Kingdom on exchange programs. Lastly, of the unknown number of Canadians who are currently serving with the US military, five of these persons have been killed in the conflict.
