Airsoft Extreme had just received a couple new released CA AK-74 this morning and I went to check them out.
First, the gun looks very cool; I can easily spot it out from the TM AK-47 hanging next to it. The entire gun has a nice black matt finish, except a few parts, I will cover this later.
Holding it in my hands, it feels solid; taking aim is easy and comfortable. It doesn’t weight as much as my full steel Type 56 but I guess it weight a bit more than a stock TM AK-47.
I am very impress about the plastic stock, forearm and pistol grip. They are nicely made and fit, don’t make plastic noise like the TM SG-1. The pistol grip feels like a little longer than the TM one, so guys with big hands would like it. The gun itself is very comfortable to hold.
The magazine insert/release action is smooth; it holds the magazine perfectly tight inside the metal receiver.
Now the flaws.
First is the gas front block. It is made of plastic, different kind of plastic than the stock, forearm and pistol grip. Its surface is smooth, looks just different from the rest of the gun and a noticeable spit is under the rear sight.
Anyway, it doesn’t look like is made of metal; I can tell it is plastic easily.
The flash hider, the front part of it is painted orange, I have no problem with that.
What bugs me is its finish. Like I said earlier, almost the entire gun has a nice black matt finish. But the flash hider itself has a black, smooth shinny coating…????….!!!!! It doesn’t match at all. Comparing it to my Guarder AK-74 flash hider, the CA one has less detail and the finish is off. Weight is different too, Guarder one is steel, CA one is Aluminium.
Overall, it looks good and feels good. Craftsmanship is fair, not as good as TM or Guarder, has some flaws.
I did not test fire this gun, as I was told it would perform pretty much same as the TM AK-47.
Plus, what is with the marking on the receiver? I would gladly own a Russian made AK-74 instead of a US copy.
